How Heat Pumps Work
Heat pumps operate using heat transfer. During colder months, heat pumps extract heat from the outdoor air or the ground and move it indoors. In warmer months, this process is reversed to cool the building by removing heat from the indoors.

Types of Heat Pumps

These systems transfer heat between the building and the ground or a nearby water source. They are more expensive to install but are more efficient than air-source pumps because they utilize the relatively stable temperatures underground, resulting in consistent and reliable energy use year-round.
These systems combine a heat pump with a solar panel to heat a refrigerant mixture. This is then used to heat your water which is stored in an internal cylinder, keeping warm for on-demand hot water.

Installation of ground-source heat pumps requires suitable land for drilling, which might not be available in all settings.
